Description: 1. Amber Dress Cane -Ca. 1890 -Large natural Baltic amber knob turned in a straight and slightly tapering shape and set at the round top with a mother of pearl cabochon. The knob displays a superbly matured apricot color and structure and comes on a deep black ebony shaft with jeweled silver wire and gold collar and a horn ferrule. Despite an excessive fragility, this rare and precious cane survived in perfect shape and still retains the custom and hinged protective leather case of its knob. -H. 2 ¼” x 1”, O.L. 38 ½” -$1,200-$1,600 -Amber is fossilized tree resin, which has been appreciated for its color and natural beauty since Neolithic times. Much valued from antiquity to the present as a gemstone, amber is made into a variety of decorative objects. Amber is used as an ingredient in perfumes, as a healing agent in folk medicine, and as jewelry.
