Description: 3. Silver Lippizan Head Cane -Dated 1883 -The larger knob is well modeled, finely chased and engraved to depict a stallion’s head showing all the features of a noble Lippizan with striking, big glass eyes, pointed ears and a magnificent mane. The head is furthermore embellished with applied bridle and reins and presented on an elaborate collar with multiple integral rings and a oval shield engraved „Hürden Rennen 1883“ which translates „Hurdle Race 1883“. Way out of the ordinary, the knob is struck with a Viennese hallmark besides an unidentified makers mark, survived with its entire surface detail and comes on a beautifully streaked rosewood shaft and a horn ferrule. -H. 2 ¾” x 2 ¼”, O.L. 37“ -$1,600-$2,200 -The Lipizzan, or Lipizzaner is a breed of horse closely associated with the Spanish Riding School of Vienna, Austria, where the finest representatives demonstrate the "high school" movements of classical dressage, including the highly advanced "airs above the ground." The Lipizzan breed dates back to the 16th century, when it was developed with the support of the Habsburg nobility. The breed takes its name from one of the earliest stud farms established, "Lipizza," -located near a Kras village now known as Lipica, in modern-day Slovenia, near Trieste, Italy. -A hurdle race in Britain and Ireland is a National Hunt horse race where the horses jump over obstacles called hurdles that are over three and a half feet high. They are typically made of a series of panels made of brush and are flexible. Hurdle races always have a minimum of eight hurdles and a minimum distance of two miles (3 km).
